4. My friend had a similar experience with a chipped bone in his toe....

.... that ended in an infection on his spine.

He had just lost his job. No insurance. Turns out he was diabetic and didn't know it. He dropped something on his foot and figured he broke his toe but didn't have insurance so he didn't go to the ER.

Felt some pain/discomfort in his neck one night. Next morning he wakes up and can't move. Any time he moved he went in to convulsions. Spent two days on the floor pissing himself and hallucinating from dehydration until he was able to yell out the window for a neighbor.

Over a month in the hospital. Now walks with a cane/walker and has to cath himself for the rest of his life.

Couple hundred thousand in medical bills paid for by you and me and written off under his eventual bankruptcy.

45 years old college educated. Now can't work and contribute.

Has been denied disability.

Denied medicaid - until Obamacare kicked in. Thank you Obama!

Hopefully now he can get more than the two physical therapy sessions the hospital gave him just to get him out. Maybe it will help him become the productive member of society he wants to be.

At the time all this happened, that mealy mouthed jag-off Illinois Senator Mark Kirk was recovering from his stroke and saying "gee, maybe we should increase the PT we pay for because I wouldn't be walking today without my taxpayer paid PT sessions." Gee ya think? Dickhead. They can't comprehend someone else's problem until it happens to THEM. I guess it's better than nothing.
