This is a result of a weak Pacific storm joining up with a cold front filtering in from the east. Yes, the southwest has weird weather and a lot of our fronts move east-west as high pressure in the center of the country forces air through the mountain passes and on to the valleys in the west.

The true monsoon is a south to north flow, rain originating in Mexico and traveling north. It has also fizzled most years since the early 90s.

BTW, I like your new digs better than your old digs, but you are not as isolated. How are you reacting to the difference?
