In reply to the discussion: Immigrants, Go Home! USA! USA! USA! ---> [View all]merrily
(45,251 posts)44. I think there is a miscommunication somewhere.
But, I am not sure where.
As for reparations, I will bet you that a majority of black Americans support it, just as a majority of white Americans do not.
That was one of my points. Only a group of African Americans support it. Not anyone who is not African American, and, perhaps more relevantly, not a majority of Democrats in Congress.
As for the RW, yes, I agree they are racist, but I was not defending them. They were not even part of the point that I was trying to make.
If we were saying that we did these people wrong, so let's make amends, I would have much less of a problem invoking the wrongs we did them in an immigration debate. But, we're not saying that. We're just invoking them. And that seems to me to be exploitative of them.

I bet if FOX did a poll, they would find most people believe Jesus was the greatest American! :)

Yes, indeed, the hypocrisy of these modern nativists is fucking disturbing.

Exactly. Texas, California, and other Southwestern states used to be part of Mexico.

I don't think Native Americans are being cited as though immigration is about them.
