As one of the conditions for settling the case, so that the victim could receive some compensation without further litigation delay, McDonald's insisted on and got a gag order. The victim and her lawyer had to agree not to talk to the media about the case. McDonald's and its fellow corporate criminals were thus left free to spread their version of the case without fear of refutation by the people who had the best access to the facts.
