Wrong Rush! It was Reagan who politicized AIDS! [View all]
With Rush blathering on about ebola, he warned that this would be politicized just as the left politicized Reagan's mishandling of the AIDS crisis. The fact of the mater is that Reagan didn't want to anger conservatives by helping gays and drug users so he remained silent as the epidemic raged. What leadership! As an epidemic killed hundreds of thousands of people in America and Africa, the president of the United States did nothing because of his political hatred for the victims. He politicized the disease! The Reagans did know gay people, but it was all about the politics.
What about AIDS activists? They did what people are supposed to do. To get politicians off of their asses, they got involved in politics. First they went after DEMOCRATIC mayer Ed Koch in New York. They had numerous protests to get him to act. This is how politics is supposed to work. Today, politics means that a corporation wants to pay lower taxes and they pay their congressman to put a loophole in some bill to lower their taxes. Real people no longer have a political voice.
Republicans will try to whitewash Reagan's handling of the crisis, but history tells us the truth: during the AIDS crisis epidemic, Reagan sat on his ass.
