(4,659 posts)... but you're missing the point. It is safer to have traffic pass you on your left. They stay out of your blind spot. That's why we have the rule of the road that recommends slower traffic stay to the right. Most defensive drivers prefer it that way, regardless of the speeds of the respective vehicles.
When you enrage another driver simply on the principle that you have some dubious "right" to travel in the left lane as long as you're travelling the speed limit or greater, you're needlessly endangering yourself and other drivers. The assclown who rides your bumper probably won't pull out a gun, but he or she likely will pass you on the right and start weaving around you, cut back in front of you, and possibly clip you or another car that doesn't see him because now he's in their blind spot. Before you know it, a family of four in a station wagon might have to pay a heavy price for your principles.
And, you have no idea why they're speeding. Maybe she got a call that her son is at the ER. Or his wife discovered an intruder in the house. Or his pregnant wife is lying in the back seat in labor. Moving over is simply the smart and sensible thing to do.
