(24,979 posts)Told you, I'm not talking about Montana or the Texas desert. Most of America has unfortunately especially in the postwar era been designed so that people can only get around in internal-combustion fetish-objects. This was heavily subsidized in the first phase by federal money. Besides the endless traffic and pollution, it's also enabled an incredibly destructive sprawl. This era will eventually end, perhaps sooner rather than later due to the environmental apocalypse to which it has contributed (among other factors). The sooner the necessary redesign begins (with most of the people in densely populated areas), the better.
Meanwhile, many people apparently think their problems are due to slow drivers. Those terrible people!
At least this part is getting a bit better - if 30,000 dead a year is okay.

I'm sure it's the slow drivers who are mainly responsible.
