(53,661 posts)The red states keep on sending those who still see those crimes as smart or justified. They will never punish them, if they did, they'd be tossed from office.
It's unwise to throw out all incumbents either, regardless of party. We've seen where this can lead to their being replaced with newbies who are incapable of working with others, and really, are just there to make money than they could elsewhere, and fully intending to reward their sponsors and then leave their seats to get more money.
Tossing Democats out is the nihilist view, and please note there is nothing of that in your post, I'm just trying to think it through here.
It leads to more radical rightists gaining control, the same as Democrats staying home does. I've had to come to the sad conclusion that those who say they won't vote, benefit from the currently unjust status quo but won't admit it.
The red state voters, unless they want to see more destruction of the egalitarian aspects of the government, always vote to keep Senators and Representatives in office no matter what they do that allegedly offends their sense of right and wrong. This shows it is not about morals, but money to maintain their position.
They know seniority determines what bills will be offered, laws passed, programs put into action or defunded and defend them to the point of insanity for the rest of the nation, if they see their self-interests being met. It sets the entire tone of how the government treats all of us that don't agree with the rightist agenda.
That's why the argument of 'they vote against their own self-interest' is incorrect. They simply don't have the same interests as the mostly urban liberal voters do. Red state true believers vote in every election, since it pays to keep their guys in office for purely selfish reasons.
Just sayin'
