that my experience is priviledged, and it is not what a struggling woman of color would face.
I was a single mother for 12 years, BUT I was a single mom who had a college degree paid in full by her parents. (Thank you mom&dad!)
I had a job paying a GS 5 salary to start. Reality is much different for those without the benefits I had... One of those benefits was being born to parents who had the means to pay for my college education, another was undoubtably being born into a middle class family, and finally I was caucasian. In America being born white in 1957 was a HUGE step up.
