(20,384 posts)Very comfortable if one is switching back and forth from guitar and bass. Interesting note on the '70s Musicmasters is that they utilized the same pickup that was installed on the Musicmaster, Duo-sonic and Mustang guitars. The cover that's on the pickup hides the poles, and if your's has never been removed you can't see them, but if you did take the cover off you'd see six poles. This setup gave the Musicmaster bass a little thinner and twangier sound. The two options for modifying the sound would be to re-route the body to accept a larger bass pickup (I wouldn't do that to a vintage instrument) or rewind the stock pickup for greater resistance which would produce a fatter sound.
Gretsch makes some cool instruments. Is you grandson actively playing?
