In reply to the discussion: White privilege: When 7 white teenagers enter a black persons home and are not charged with anything [View all]csziggy
(34,189 posts)7. Those teens are all over 18 - they are legally ADULTS!
OK, it may not be burglary but it IS trespass. It was trespass before they entered the house.
From the link in the OP (now edited so the text changed from what was quoted):
"Police said Alana Elizabeth Garcia, 18, Jorge Jesus Guerrero, 18, Christian John Lobo, 18, Jonathan Louis Ramirez, 19, Kevin Ramos, 18, Ernesto Romero, 18, and Angel Alejandro, 18, reportedly went into Allen's Coral Gables home around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 14, entering through an unlocked door."
I'd be putting up a big fence, loads of "No Trespassing" signs and motion sensor alarms all over the place. And locking my doors!

It appears you're looking for both offenses and inaccuracies that simply are not present.

"they were charged" Not at the time of the break-in, not by police, and not until homeowner pressed

They were eventually charged. Later. After lawyers were contacted and involved.

I'm just bothered that so many, upon seeing a Spanish name, assumed they must be non-white.

Of course it doesn't amount to burglary, but why is that a reason not to charge them?
