Fox’s Howard Kurtz Defends Obama from Cornel West’s ‘Vicious Attack’

MediaBuzz host Howard Kurtz is not the biggest fan of President Barack Obama. But in a new video and essay for FoxNews.com, Kurtz defends the president from what he describes as a “vicious attack” from Dr. Cornel West.

In a sprawling interview with Salon, West called Obama a “brown-faced Clinton,” adding “It’s like you’re looking for John Coltrane and you get Kenny G in brown skin.” He criticized Obama’s handling of everything from foreign policy to Ferguson, at one point comparing him to a “pimp.”

In his response, Kurtz begins by openly debating on whether he should even “reward” West’s “outrageous, outlandish” comments with his attention. But he decided to tackle the issue because he thinks it says something about the “angry left” and their dissatisfaction with President Obama.

“You’re accusing the president of the United States of being a pimp?” Kurtz asks West. “What does that even mean?”
He then read off some other “incendiary” and “racially-charged” quotes from the Salon interview.

“I think there’s an interesting liberal critique here, going at the president from the left,” Kurtz says. But he wasn’t sure Cornel West’s “stink bombs” were the most effective way to get those points across.
