A parent rejecting their own child for something so innately human as sexual identity is a horror beyond words.
I'm fortunate, my wife is fortunate, our kids, nephews and nieces are fortunate to have grown up in family environments where LGBT is utterly ordinary human diversity, part of everyday existence.
My grandparents' generation worked that all out, from simple acceptance to protection of those seeking shelter.
Before that, in the pre-Hollywood American Wild West, I think it was "don't ask, don't tell." Beds were scarce. Odd couples shared.
One of my grandmothers was a very glamorous woman who loved weddings. She would have thoroughly enjoyed a modern wedding between a man and a man or a woman and a woman. She didn't live to see such wonders but I'm always happy to lend her spirit my own witness.
