12. Xeriscaping!

I did it to my yard when I lived in CA. I push-mowed one too many times in the summer heat ... & the grass was gone! Replaced by flagstone walkways, rolling mounds, boulders, a meandering dry creekbed, & over 200 native plants. It was beautiful, neighbors would come over to sit in our "garden" to relax. I never missed the grass, & sold my mower.

Now that I'm in FL I get regular rainstorms. When I do need to water, we have an artesian well, so it just costs a little bit to run the irrigation pump.
