I'm sure there would be legal wrangling, but a franchise is a franchise. McDonald's might not be able to force an owner to sell restaurant but they can pull franchise rights and put another McDonalds down the street. I worked in the Hotel Industry for a bit and the company was constantly pulling franchise rights form hotel owners. They'd lose 'Holiday Inn' (for example) branding and all assistance from corporate.

The NFL could award a new franchise in the DC or Virginia area and pull TV coverage from the Redskins team - among other things.

Just a theory, of course, and the NFL would probably never do it.
