(9,796 posts)For several reasons which I'm not comfortable getting into here, I suspect it would be triggering for me.
That aside, it's a disheartening fact of humanity that, in the most advanced country on earth, so many people still draw their morality from a whackadoodle interpretation of their holy book. There can be love and peace and forgiveness and tolerence in religion, so why do so many use it as an excuse for their hatreds? In fact, I would say that the entire popularity of fundementalist Christianity (and probably fundie versions of other faiths) is based on nothing more than a revenge fantasy of seeing everyone and everything the believer likes consigned to hell, the literal embodiment of Weird Al's line of "I'll be laughing my head off / as you're burning in hell" (Amish Paradise).
Roll on the days when a teen confirming they are gay is met with nothing more than "oh, ok. Found anyone nice?".
