telemarketers, or call center workers if I need to call them, that I know they are working from a script and unable to say what they think.

You did a good job with that as disrespect would have cost you man a vote, possibly. The so-called 'independents' are sometimes funded by the GOP to strip votes from Democrats, not to win and I expect they are paid handsomely for it.
