5. Men Seem to be more identified with free speech

If you think about it, there are not as many female whistle-blowers. Can you imagine a female Snowden? I think Reddit would have swarmed ways to denigrate her activities instead of promoting her cause and protecting her.

I think the EFF may be faulted a bit here as well. I love the EFF - they are one of the few organizations I proclaim support for on my LinkedIn profile. But I do think they skew toward representing men as free speech heroes. Part of that might be because the EFF is mainly a clearing house for lawyers making their own decisions about who they will represent - but it seems to me that those geek lawyers mainly see free speech leadership in geek guys. And they mainly see trouble-making biatches in geek girls.

Wouldn't it be nice to have more girl free speech heroes?

By the way, one of the most awe-inspiring books you can read on this topic is the American Library Association's Intellectual Freedom Manual: http://www.ala.org/advocacy/intfreedom/iftoolkits/ifmanual/intellectual

I literally felt like I had gained in moral stature after reading that several years ago. I should check out an updated edition.
