Market Basket workers wrote a new playbook, Bronfenbrenner ( teaches labor relations at Cornell University) said. It shows how outdated national labor law is. It also shows the power of managers joining regular workers in collective action, she said. Bronfenbrenner said she expects that combination to become more common across the country.

Just found this interesting open letter from a Union supporter's blog

But theres a challenge that goes along with that decision. Ive often seen a quote from one of the earlier rallies in Tewksbury: You dont need a union if youve got a family. Maybe youre right but now youve got to prove it. If youve discovered a way for workers to act collectively and fight for their best interests that is a better model than the old one, make sure you show that to the world. Reinstating a beloved CEO isnt going to be enough if you dont maintain what youve built on your own these last few weeks. You claim to take care of your own, and Ive seen you do it with my own eyes, long before this uprising. Now that you know what youre capable of, youve got to keep doing it. Youve got to start taking care of one another on a bigger scale, on a more organized level, and from a more powerful position.
