22. Welcome to DU, wally baby! AND to strawberries as well!

Glad you're both here! Yeah, it IS a tough crowd. I've had my head handed to me a few times and it never seems to stop me from sticking my neck out anyway. Hmmm... so what does THAT tell you (LOL!)?

I think what galls some people here - and I'm among them - is how this guy somehow didn't see fit to stay and serve out the rest of his term - that the people of his state originally entrusted to him and counted on him to serve them. Yeah, fine. Go for the bucks. That doesn't surprise anybody. Why do you have to be in such a hurry to skeedaddle outta there and go for the bucks? Heck, if he'd waited til January, he'd STILL be marketable enough. He'd still be snapped up by some big-ticket firm offering some big-ticket salary. His shelf-life value would not have declined all that much - if indeed at all. So for now, if I'm not mistaken, he's no longer serving the people of his Virginia district. And neither is anybody else. They have NO representation while he can go get the hell outta Dodge and go get for himself. Sort of underscores what is strongly suggested as the ultimate truth about his ultimate mission: eric cantor was and is in business for himself. And that's evidently the only "constituency" he's really ever cared about. You didn't see that when Jimmy Carter got voted out. He served out the rest of his term. And for that matter, so did bush1. now, on the other hand, sarah palin sure bailed in a hurry to go for the gold. Guess you can't keep 'em down on the tundra after they've seen DC.

I imagine cantor felt motivated to leave as early as possible as a kind of subtle "fuck you" to the voters back home. If you guys didn't see fit to keep me in that lofty position I worked so hard to achieve, then the heck with you all. So that's the thanks I get for all the hard work I did for my career - AHEM!!! I mean - for you? Well, then, screw you, I'm outta here, and I'm gettin' for ME.

Just my opinion here, but the behavior seems rather tell-tale. The Man-Up-and-See-It-Through-To-The-End ethic seems NOT to have been in play with this guy.
