(1,638 posts)is the same fight we've been fighting since the fall of Saddam. The same areas of Iraq revolting against a sectarian government that's oppressed them, the same fundamentalists that are taking part in that revolt and cutting off heads. Of course, our support of the fragmentation of Syria has added a new dimension, and each phase of a battle is different, but this is a continuation of a fight we've been having on and off for 11 years. Some of us thought it was a good idea to stop fighting that war. Others, apparently, disagree.
9/11 might have been prevented if the CIA hadn't hidden from the FBI the fact that al Qaeda operatives had entered the US. I'm not sure why people are now acting like the lesson from 9/11 is that if only Bush had bombed more countries when he first came into office the thing could have been prevented.
