Spending 2 semesters in a required religion course in what eventually caused me to loose all belief in the Christian (or any other) religion. I grew up going to church 3 to 4 times a week. I never questioned why, we just did.
I saw too many people scream and carry on about 'drinking' (in Va., we have a state run liquor stores.) Well, guess who you could see going into our ABC store on Mondays (small town, highest per capita sales in the state at that time). And only on Sundays did one not cuss up a storm. Well, after studying religion in college, with every one of our reference books written my atheists. I asked the professor (who had a doctorate in religion) why, and his answer was because
atheists write more unbiased books than any one of faith does.
Well, that kind of did it for me.
