17. But couldn't it be money laundered from foreign sources?

Like, if the Saudis wanted to buy our election, they wouldn't be able to do it directly, but they could give huge anonymous amounts to these organizations that would then use it to buy the elections. That would seem to me to be a variety of laundering.

I guess I would use the term "laundering" whenever the original source is concealed, whether or not that source was a criminal one.
