In reply to the discussion: What, exactly is the pupose of the Ray Rice saturated coverage [View all]BlueStreak
(8,377 posts)This is about a bunch of men acting as if they somehow get it, when they are actually demonstrating exactly the opposite.
The NFL had everything they needed to know from the very first tape. Obviously Rice had clocked her. You didn't have to see the footage to know that. And the NFL give him a slight tap on the wrists.
That rightly brought outrage and from that point the Commissioner realized he didn't have a spousal violence issue, he had a PR issue, and has been handling it as such ever sense. These people don't give a shit about violence against women. But they care a lot about the money that the NFL brings in every week. And they recognize women are a big part of that. So the Comish was looking for a way to get out of his mess.
The second elevator video gave him the cover to suspend Rice and talk tough. But that's all it is -- just managing a PR problem.
And what about all these assholes in the media talking as if they had some concern about spousal violence? Where were they 3 weeks ago when all of this was known? It is just a bunch of assholes scrambling to get on the right side of the issue. It will all pass in a couple of days.
