(26,712 posts)By focusing on the 1%, you are adding another dimension to this. "Golf is 1%". Now you are also diminishing the valid argument of pretty much everyone on this board that the income/wealth disparity of this country will lead to its destruction.
Golf isn't about the 1% - what I wrote applies to GOLF as an INDUSTRY/SPORT. Don't know about where you live, but here, we have municipal courses where people can join for a small fee and play as much as they want for a fraction of what it costs to take a family to the movies. These courses would do the same thing - because of their business model. You don't cut your members off on one of the busiest weekends of the year without notice. The schools here are VERY active in Golf as intramural sporting and it gives the kids something to do/learn after class this time of year (and in the spring). I donated my clubs years ago to the impoverished city school within whose district I reside in order to support this effort.
We should just cut all that off and let them go join the local suburban heroin epidemic because "Golf" is inherently a "1%" topic. Right?
