(45,251 posts)44. That's impressive. Kurdish might not even be the 4th language of Iraq.
Some of my cousins grew up in Lebanon with an Armenian dad. They learned, in this order, Armenian, French, Arabic and English. They moved to Houston as adults and the two who worked in a hospital picked up Spanish, seemingly by osmosis. Sigh.

Isn't the map showing Portuguese for Massachusetts? Or is Massachusetts not considered northern NE?

They're mostly Scots-Irish and Anglo, and descended from pioneers, from all I've read.....of those..

There is a large Brazilian population in Framingham and you would hear Portuguese there.
