Let's look at what the law did; many of the people who *were* deported were law abiding folks, even if they didn't have the proper papers. Tell me, did everyone fleeing Castro's Revolution in Cuba have papers, or could even afford to pay the immigration fees? I think you'll find that the answer is no, not everyone did. And yet, we took them in anyway.
