1. Thermal paper receipts suck

Not only for the reasons you mention but also because they fade away pretty quickly so they suck for record keeping. These are very popular in restaurant printers and as an employee my clock in/out times were printed on them. I saved them until my next pay check so I could have a printed record of my time worked in case of an error. The one time there was an error I grabbed those receipts and about half of them had faded past the point of legibility and were useless.
