The fate of 538 pages of documents from a top Republican political consultant will be the subject today of a hearing before the Florida Supreme Court, a case stemming from the state’s summerlong clash over congressional redistricting.

Attorneys for Pat Bainter and his Gainesville-based Data Targeting, Inc., are asking justices to keep sealed the documents as trade secrets.

The documents — which include email and proposed district maps — were earlier allowed to be used in a trial challenging the constitutionality of the state’s congressional boundaries, but only after the courtroom was closed to the press and public.

'

A coalition of voting groups led by the Florida League of Women Voters wants to have the documents made public and have been joined by state news organizations in making their case to justices.
