Unlikely friendships abound in animal shelters, but it’s not every day that you hear about a goat and gosling becoming the best of buddies.

Meet Hemingway the Goat and Ryan the Gosling

Hemingway the goat was just 6 weeks old when he was dropped off at the front gate of Farm Sanctuary’s California Shelter. Malnourished and crawling with lice and fleas, it was clear right away that this poor baby boy had been neglected by his previous owner. Luckily he found his way to Farm Sanctuary, and with a lot of love and care, little Hemingway slowly regained his strength.

While Hemingway was finding his feet again, another new resident had arrived at Farm Sanctuary’s California Shelter. With bowed legs and a quirky walk, Ryan the gosling had a little trouble getting about, but that didn’t stop him from trying.

Despite being abandoned, Ryan had imprinted on humans, making him one very friendly goose. He loved being in the company of his caregivers, especially as he grew more and more active.
