(8,242 posts)The first time I met them some months ago we went to dinner & they spent the whole evening complaining. Not about the food or anything in their immediate environment, all of it was about the government & society. By the end of it I was ready to suggest that perhaps they'd be happier living in another country. And of course they (in their minds) were RIGHT about everything & everyone else was WRONG, even though pretty much everything they said had already been shown to be untrue (Republifaux talking points).
As for the study claiming conservatives are happier, I'll say 1) I believe they THINK they're happier because of their smug sense of being "right" about everything, even though they're not really happier in terms of what most people would consider happiness, & 2) I believe they define happiness differently than liberals. I'm sure the two I met for dinner were quite happy that they had the opportunity to spend an evening complaining & criticizing. To them that was a happy evening. To me? Not so much.
