(90,079 posts)I'd love to see John Fugelsang get his own show.
Now, if they REALLY wanted to get some attention for "Meet the Press," THAT kind of outta-left-field (so to speak!!!!) move would attract all kinds of attention, press, commentary, chatter on the internets, and more. It'd make all kinds of noise! And that would get viewers - those in favor, those shocked and/or horrified, and the merely curious. And because he injects humor, it'd go farther. If I were programming MSNBC, that's the kind of thing I'd do. Only my first instincts tell me Rachel should handle "Meet the Press," and forgo her Friday evening show. Just M-Th for her, and then Sunday. I'd continue to give Lawrence O'Donnell Friday night off as well. I'd put John Fugelsang in for that two-hour block every Friday night, and tell him to just let go! I'd want a total revue from him. Maybe an opening monologue or "'Weekend Update'-meets-'Daily Show'and-'Colbert'" type thing, LOTS of comedy and satire, some cool rocker guests (I know of one band in particular...
), panel segment, some talking heads here and there, newsmaker A, B, & C of the week. And just let him go wild! Two hours of prime time programming to do whatever-the-fuck he wants. Cuz we know what he can do. I'd just like to see him let loose and push the envelope so far outta shape that it doesn't even look like an envelope anymore. Give him total control and let's see him fly with it! It'd be CAN'T MISS TV, for sure. Remember, Stephen Colbert is going to CBS. We're told his "Colbert Report"-type routine won't be going with him. So THAT's a need to be filled then, too.
