10. Part of it involves the main Republican candidate having a scandal on his hands

So the main Republican candidate, Mike Rounds is losing popularity. Some of those voters that use to support Mike Rounds still prefer the ex Republican Larry Pressler, over Rick Weiland the Dem.

Kind of a complicated mess.

The scandal involved visas here in America for some Chinese investors if they invested in a meat plant in South Dakota. The deal fell apart and the Chinese investors so far have lost their investments and did not get the visas. The State of South Dakota lost money on the deal as well. Also some workers in lost their jobs and some contractors in SD did not get paid after the deal went bankrupt:
