(93 posts)I was commenting that getting fired or disciplined for facebook posts was not unprecedented. Your original comment implied that since her facebook account is private, they have no interest in what she says.
I also responded there may be more to the story than we know. If you re-read the article, she never stated what her response to them was other than maybe a sentence. What if she did say, "yea I think all of you are racists because you are white?"
At that point should they still employ her?
I don't know what she said and I mentioned that in my post. I do see the difference in the variety of facebook examples I provided. My intent was not to equivocate each one of those cases with hers other than for the fact they were all private FB posts and they suffered consequences at work for them.
Interestingly the only thing posted in reference to her FB posts was the cartoon which in and of itself doesn't merit this reaction from her employer. Perhaps comments she made when sharing it is what got them spun up. Why is it we only get to see the cartoon and not what she said in her posts? They did say they were concerned about her comments.
One would think if she is truly a victim of racism then this would already be in the hands of an attorney and not the press. Afterall she is a Dentist and they are not stupid. She probably has a lawyer and all that good stuff. No lawyer would tell her to air this in the media. They would go for a settlement first and if that doesn't work, try it in the court of public opinion in conjunction with a lawsuit.
