...we're getting more rain now, but we don't have any more chance of sever storms like this one. We watched storm after storm develop in the NW region of OK last night. It was INSANE! I have family in Alva, which is just east of Woodward. Luckily, they have a neighbor that has a good basement.
I know in a lot of markets, weathermen are jokes, but in Oklahoma, they tend to be innovators in meteorology. Gary England worked with NOAA to develop a lot of the modern radar and computer systems they use to analyze radar for storms since the 80s. He's a local legend, and his weather department is credited with saving a TON of lives. When storms get rotation, he's on the TV. He keeps calm, and always makes sure to talk to kids who might be home alone to let them know they will be OK. Tells them to go get their helmets and find the lowest spot in their home, most interior place of their home. Turn the TV up so they can hear him or grab a radio and tune it to the station he simulcasts on. It is really amazing that only 5 people were lost in this storm in OK. IOWA was hit really hard too.
