She lived in a state (OK) where "most people" claimed that heritage--it was fashionable to so do, sort of like being descended from the Mayflower families used to be "cool" in New England. I'll bet half of her neighbors who made the claim were talking up an unproven family rumor, too. That said, I do believe the quiet rumblings amongst those who are close to her throne that she sent off the DNA and got bad news back, which is why she fell back on the "I believed what my parents told me" TRUTH. Tell the truth, I say--it's always easier.
Skip Gates (who does the PBS show on Ancestry) uses the DNA tool all the time--sometimes (in fact, MOST times) people who think they have "native American" blood find, to their shock, there's none there, despite family stories that stretch back generations. His family tree--that he thought was full of native peoples--was bereft of them as well. I think this might be the case with EW.
Bottom line, though--I don't care about her ancestry--she didn't pick her forebears. She doesn't need a specific heritage to do a good job chairing the banking committee.
