Help Maria complete her new book about the politics of incarceration including the views of inmates, families and legal advocates.

Maria Telesco, under the umbrella of the Fresno Center for Nonviolence, is seeking funds to complete
her new book "Prisons: The Ins and The Outs."

This project has been in the works for a year now. We need to hire a student assistant to edit and help Maria to prepare the manuscript for publishing. In addition to bringing an important work to the public, these funds would offer an excellent opportunity for a student to learn more about these subjects while earning money to contribute to his/her college fund.

Featured in the book by Richard Stone, “Hidden in Plain Sight: Profiles of Fresno’s Unsung Progressive Activists”, Maria Telesco has written extensively about the California prison system and the lives and difficulties of inmates and their families as well as the politics involved with the prison system.

Ms. Telesco is the co-author of “Outsiders Looking In : How To Keep From Going Crazy When Someone You Love Goes To JAIL”. Telesco has been the president of the Fresno Center for Nonviolence for over ten years.

The Fresno Center for Nonviolence has been involved in many efforts to create a community and a world of peace, nonviolence, social justice and tolerance for all through education by offering free film screenings, a book and film library, sponsoring visiting speakers and filmmakers as well as projects such as Maria Telesco's book.

1) Please do not be discouraged by the donation process. You DO NOT need to go through Facebook. If you scroll down, you will be asked for your email address and a password. This is NOT your private email password. This is a new one that you create and will only be used to access your Kickstarter account. It is easy and not risky. It should take less than two minutes. You will then be asked to open an Amazon account – you may, of course, already have one – and it is here that you put in your credit card information. Please note that this is a pledge that you are making and it stays with your Amazon/Kickstarter account until the amount needed is reached whereupon your credit card is charged – If we do not reach the $3,000 asked for, your credit card will NOT BE charged.

2) Although, from our point of view it is much better that you choose option 1) above, IF YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE ABOUT THIS PROCESS, you can write a check to the Center for Nonviolence, putting in the memo part that it is for Maria’s book. We will hold on to the check until the final days of the project and either return the check to you or it will be put into an account and sent to Kickstarter. This is more complicated for us so please persevere through Kickstarter. Send your check to Fresno Center for Nonviolence, 1584 N. Van Ness Ave., Fresno, CA 93728
