(2,570 posts)other than all the equally dishonest labeling that accompanies their strawpeople.
The real purists aren't those that find HC largely or wholely unpalatable, but rather those that demand they feel and express themselves otherwise lest they fall victim to an avalanche of strawpeople carcasses and suffocated by the endless stream of such noise that is really just an escape hatch from the indefensibility of those things they object to about her.
SO what she loves cluster bombs but thinks single-payer a bad idea, no?
The simple fact of the matter is that those that oppose her came to that conclusion via the same pro/con list that the third wayers came to theirs, and the bad outweighs the good and vice versa respectively. They also reject the status quo of another corporatist in the WH, whereas her supporters embrace it or have resigned themselves to it.
and the third wayers simply can't handle the fact that they can't hide their role in all the socio-economic issues, e.g. income inequality, that currently plague us, while being totally bewildered as to why those not like them react so harshly to their strawmen-tossing selves claiming the moral high ground the aforementioned deprives them of.
I think the most silly thing the author wrote was about "engaging", like "engaging" is the same regardless of the depth and breadth, nature and character of the interactions/entanglements prompting and resulting from the engagements. There are no prominent pols in DC without sin in this regard -- even Sanders -- http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Nov06/Smith15.htm, there's merely the "some are better than others/lesser of two evils" choices for us all to make based on the totality of their records. For example, in this case much as with BHO, her vote for the Iraq War v Sanders voting against it. His support for Israel as much as I find it abominable at worst and misguided at best makes him hawkish for Israel, not the US. Same with Warren http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2014/09/19/morning-plum-elizabeth-warren-bets-against-war/ Let's face it, FP is where we've always seen the most bipartisanship http://www.counterpunch.org/2014/09/15/progressive-democrats-follow-obama-to-war-in-syria/ so the question is who is the more/most hawkish, or has shown the potential for it. Apparently HC supporters don't like the idea that HC has won the title to so many, no?
Apparently to many HC is simply less preferred than some of her fellow travelers/sinners based on her record, not because of the irrationality, dishonesty and/or ignorance of some mythical horde of starry-eyed and unrealistic idealists/"purists" who think their choice above criticism. Nobody's looking for much less expecting perfection in their candidates, just those they think will do the most good and the least harm.
The problem we old lefty, big picture people see isn't the "well, Sanders and Warren are hawkish too!" albeit in a more limited context/way, but rather the fact that those we think would be our best reps are hawkish at all. There's no such thing as a harmless hawk as their views on Israel make clear, but some hawks are to be feared more than others, and HC appears to be the most feared, and for good reasons, most notably the vote that went a long way towards her losing to BHO.
The fear of rightwingnuttery that gives license to so many to overlook so much and to attempt to silence her critics, has a twin on the democrat playground behind the fear and consequent opposition to HC. You'd think that that the victims of that fear that have slowly given up turf to the right, the third wayers, would have sufficient knowledge and insight into the problem to relate and empathize, but alas, all they can see are crazy on the right and only slightly less crazy on the real left from their pirch on the moral highground.
We see efforts representative of this almost daily around here, no? You have to wonder at this point who they consider the bigger enemy -- the rightwingers or all those "traitors" on what's left of the left lacking love for HC.
