Regarding Bill Cosby's take on the Trayvon Martin case and soft bigotry.

4. I have a lot of respect for Cosby, but RWers love to use him as an indirect way to bash blacks.

Bill Cosby is an African American man who has his own thoughts and opinions on the greater African American community. Some blacks agree with him, others disagree. The bottom line, however, is that in the end it is a man taking an introspective look on his own community.

However, what some rightwingers (either those who are subtly racist or overtly racist) love to do is to use Cosby's own introspective thoughts as a black man on his own African American community that could be construed as critical of some within the African American community as an excuse to get a cheap shot off at blacks. They figure if they can quote a black man's well-meaning self-reflective thoughts to fit their own agenda of wanting to demonize blacks, they can get off without themselves being called racists.

It's what I call "racism-laundering." It's neither fair to Bill Cosby or to the African American community in general, but that's right wingers for you.

Of course, since he attacked the sacred cow that is the gun, I'm sure there are a lot fewer who want to prop his words up as their own in this instance.
