then than it is now... at least for we invisibles. I don't see whole lot of difference compared to how it was back then when there was no such thing as welfare and food stamps/SNAP. Sure, we have some progressive upgrades but those all happened decades ago and have receded back to (almost) what it was like before so no, I don't think we're doing very well considering the programs that were put in place way back in the 60s if you compare it on all levels with what we have going on today.

I do agree with your assessment of what happened to initiate the social decline but we're pretty much back to where we were before so the R's model had succeeded, they are just waiting for the green light to go in for the kill now-a-days.
