(3,795 posts)Their suggestion is not that you'll vote Repug, but that you will "help elect a Republican". This is done by either 1) voting 3rd party/write-in/etc. or 2) simply not voting at all. These acts "help elect a Republican". If you're liberal your vote is COMPLETELY taken for granted by certain elements. We HAVE to vote for someone that is the lesser of two evils or it's OUR fault if the country continues its rapid descent to 3rd world status, and these people will blame liberals and leftists for the continuing deterioration of our country instead of those with the actual power who failed to earn some of our votes.
That line of thinking infuriates me. I certainly realize that no matter what happens, the left wing/most liberal elements of this country will ALWAYS be blamed for Democratic losses within certain circles. You see the Democratic nominee doesn't have to actively share, promote, or fight for our values in any meaningful way and can actually fight to implement legislation that we are ideologically opposed to, and we STILL have to vote for him/her. Or it's our fault. Always our fault. Not the politician's fault. Never the politician's fault. Of course, I reject such patent nonsense, but those of us who blame liberals/leftists that voted for Nader in 2000 for Gore's loss will certainly continue blaming liberals/leftists for Obama's loss should such a thing happen.
With that said: I'm voting Obama unless a viable alternative exists, which it probably won't, and I'm not happy about it. I personally think Obama will get re-elected and that his second term will make us yearn for his first. With that said I'm still voting for him because there's always a chance I'm wrong. I don't believe I'll be wrong, but there's a chance. For me, the writing was on the wall with Obama's cabinet picks pre-inauguration, and that foreshadowed the past three years extraordinarily well in my opinion. I feel more and more dystopian about our country's future with every passing year.
