(84,711 posts)He felt he could work better with Repubs holding both Senate & Congress...and nuanced in there in answer to questions gave much room in "speak" to Trade & new AUMF agreement for the conditions in the ME to replace the post "9/11" AUMF for IRAQ.
He was quite good at being lawyerly...in his letting the press know what could be in the works...without going far enough that it could be called a "direct quote." It was tied up in long riffs over how America was doing good all over the world and how jobs, energy exploration and getting along with our partners was needed so that we could partner in these efforts...and blah..blah...
But, if one listened carefully you could see the TPP Trade Deal, Fracking and Offshore exploration because we are now "Energy Independent" and want to stay that way...along with the wars without end on ISIS that we need to craft a new agreement for...even saying that it will probably be ongoing into the next Congress for the New AUMF Agreement. Meaning the outgoing House & Senate might not give him what he wants but the new Republican one will.
He's a very clever guy.
