which is one of those red states that voted to increase the minimum wage, the reconciliation is easy-- the minimum wage issue was a constitutional amendment, which will make it difficult for any party to tamper with. It was also one of the Democrats' core issues. On the other hand, there are lots of single-issue voters in the state. They might support the overall Democratic platform in principle, but there is one issue that gets in their craw so much that they vote for the other party just because of that one issue.

For example, my mothers' neighbors, who are both elderly and on disability (thanks to Democrats), vote for Republicans just because of the abortion issue, even though it has no relation whatsoever to their lives. When I went back to the state, I also came to realize that there were lots of people who were upset about the gay marriage issue. Then, there is the wealthy Northwest, which overwhelmingly favors Republicans because "Democrats raise taxes". And Tom Cotton gained a lot of support by attacking Obamacare, and generally making people afraid.
