54. The fringe activists among both parties are largely affluent white middle-class folks...

...and consist mostly of representatives of the older generations of this group. They tend to wax nostalgic about the "good ole days" of the 1950s or 1960s.

They have more in common with each other than either have in common with the rest of American society these days. And that's part of why they are so angry; they fear being tossed aside into social, cultural, and political irrelevance.
