I think both parties, in however much they both engage in this kind of interaction willingly, are pretty foolish.

Do I think evolution can create members of a species who make the wrong choices? No. I think group selection does that...which is by no means automatic...the culture can exert a strong influence that warps people's judgement and behavior...but there are some more mild innate behaviors and biases all of us are susceptible to if we don't make the effort to consciously override thousands of years of natural selection...certainly there are traits men and women unconsciously are both looking for in each other that influence our choices...

there have been tests done that show what both men and women are more likely to respond to and often they will correspond to just what we might expect pre-modern humans might have been concerned in securing for themselves even if such traits or behaviors have little effect on our survival today...I believe scientists call it something like "ghost dancing"... It's when an animal species plays out and old "script" of behavior written out over thousands of years and repeated by so many generations we don't even realize we are doing it and that it is of little use to us today.
