35. To those who served, my thanks.

In honor of my father, who served in the NC National Guard, then in Korea and then several more years in the Guard, and his father who was in WWI, as well as his brothers who were in WWII and Viet Nam.

Daddy has only recently begun to share his experiences or show any desire to remember his military experiences. He'll be going to remembrance services today in a Class A uniform with his patches and medals. (And I hope like heck I didn't get anything wrong on those!)

All my cousins, current and former military, especially my cousin Tanya who was in Beirut but made it home only to leave us far too soon. Heck, even my fundie ex-husband, who served in the Viet Nam war.

My daddy:

A shadowbox I made him a few years ago:

I don't have any of my pictures scanned in, so I'll just add:

I was young, with no prospects. The Air Force got me out of my small hometown and let me meet some of the finest people I'll ever know. In many ways, those four years were the best of my life.
