NY was THIRD in the total number of murders in the United States in 2013, California with it's strict gun control was first.

States & territories with lowest numbers for murders*:
Hawaii 9
Vermont 9
Guam 9
North Dakota 11
South Dakota 12
Virgin Islands 14
Montana 15
Wyoming 15
New Hampshire 21
Maine 24

Those in bold are states considered to have "loose" or less restrictive gun laws

*While Alabama is listed with only two murders, the FBI report indicates that Alabama does not report homicides to the FBI
