34. I would have thought that the AIDS crisis hitting home in the 80's would have been enough

to make Amerians take notice. But it was not. For what it's worth, my first protest outside an Insurance Company was circa 1985, demonstrating against benefits and treatments being denied to people with AIDS and calling for Universal Health Care.
What actually happened at that time was nothing. Reagan and his Republican Party watched more than 20,000 Americans die without saying so much as a word about it.
Thus far, AIDS has killed about 36 million people and is still the leading cause of death in Africa, Ebola is not even in the top 5.
At least with Ebola we had a President with the sense to take action early in Africa and at home. People freaked out about one death and two sick nurses. 20,000 dead and there was apathy.
