Why did DuPont drop "through chemistry" from their old advertising slogan?
"Better Things for Better Living...Through Chemistry."
DuPont adopted it in 1935 and it was their slogan until 1982 when the "Through Chemistry" part was dropped.
The counter culture movement from the 1960s used a variant of the 1935 advertising slogan to achieve two primary purposes:
1.To create an ironic reference to recreational drug use.

2.To create an ironic reference to the "chemical" word as a negative reference for big companies like Dupont.
