(135,425 posts)75. I heard it on Spanish television--they broke in to announce it.
Everyone started sobbing; from then on it was a week of national mourning. You'd have thought the Spanish had lost their leadership, with all the expressions of grief. Everyone went to church.
I didn't see any of the TV coverage until many years later. I heard a lot of the reports on assorted English language radio outlets.
